In December 2021, I packed up my Moog semimodulars, my laptop, and our dog and took our travel trailer to Pinnacles National Park for a four-day music retreat. I hiked the Bear Gulch trail up to the High Peaks Loop -- 6.7 miles, 1,400+ feet of climbing -- where I saw endangered California condors perching and, in one instance, swooping over my head. That night, I composed "Bear Gulch", which features field recordings from the trail.
